Hajj Fare Announcement

Kintampo, Bono East — Former President John Dramani Mahama has hinted that Hajj pilgrimage fares for Ghanaian Muslims could significantly drop to around GHC50,000 in 2026 — a potential reduction that depends largely on the continued appreciation of the Ghanaian Cedi against the US Dollar.

Speaking during his ongoing *Thank You Tour* in Kintampo, Mr. Mahama emphasized that the cost of Hajj is heavily influenced by the performance of the Cedi in the forex market. He cited the recent gains made by the local currency as a positive indicator that could lead to a more affordable pilgrimage experience for prospective pilgrims next year.

“If the Cedi continues its current trend of strengthening against the dollar, I am optimistic that Hajj fares could drop to GHC50,000,” Mahama assured the crowd, receiving enthusiastic cheers from many attendees who consider the pilgrimage a lifelong spiritual aspiration.

The current Hajj fare hovers between GHC65,000 to GHC75,000 depending on the package and services offered, making Mahama’s projection a significant potential relief for many Ghanaian Muslims.

His remarks have sparked conversation nationwide, especially among the Muslim community and travel agencies involved in organizing the pilgrimage. Observers say that stable currency policy and inflation control will be key factors in achieving this target.
