The Greatest Reward in Jannah: Seeing Allah (SWT)
Based on the Hadith of Suhaib (RA) – Riyad as-Salihin 1896
Introduction
One of the most profound and spiritually uplifting promises in Islam is the ultimate reward for the believers in the Hereafter — the vision of Allah (SWT). Beyond the pleasures of Paradise — gardens beneath which rivers flow, eternal youth, peace, and unimaginable delight — lies a reward unmatched in beauty and magnitude: seeing the Face of Allah.
“When the inhabitants of Jannah enter Jannah, Allah, the Glorious and Exalted, will say to them: ‘Do you wish Me to give you anything more?’ They will reply: ‘Have You not made our faces bright? Have You not brought us into Jannah and delivered us from the Hellfire?’ Then Allah will remove the Veil, and the dwellers of Jannah will feel that they have not been awarded anything dearer to them than looking at their Lord.”
— [Sahih Muslim]
1. Gratitude of the Believers
The people of Jannah will be overwhelmed with gratitude, acknowledging Allah’s immense favors:
- Brightened and radiant faces — a sign of honor and joy
- Entrance into eternal bliss — Jannah
- Deliverance from the torment of Hellfire
Despite all this, Allah will ask, “Do you wish for anything more?” — a question that reflects His boundless mercy and generosity.
2. The Lifting of the Veil
In response to their gratitude, Allah will remove the Hijab — the Veil that separates Him from His creation. What follows is the ultimate joy: the vision of Allah.
— Surah Al-Qiyamah (75:22–23)
This is the climax of divine love and nearness — a moment when the hearts of believers will feel a joy never experienced before.
3. Understanding the Beatific Vision
According to Ahl al-Sunnah wa’l-Jama’ah, the vision of Allah in the Hereafter:
- Will be real and direct
- Without imagining or likening Him to creation
- Will be the ultimate honor granted to believers
It is a truth confirmed in both Qur’an and authentic hadith.
4. A Reward Beyond Imagination
All pleasures in Jannah — palaces, companionship, delicious food, eternal peace — pale in comparison to the joy of seeing Allah. This hadith teaches us that the spiritual closeness to Allah is the highest aspiration of a believer.
5. What Should This Mean to Us?
Knowing the greatest reward is seeing Allah should inspire us to:
- Love Allah and His Messenger ﷺ more deeply
- Live with hope in Allah’s mercy
- Obey His commands and avoid sins
- Strive for sincerity and righteousness
Not everyone will have this privilege — only those who truly believed and longed to meet their Lord.
Conclusion
The hadith of Suhaib (RA) is not just a glimpse into the future but a motivation for the present. It teaches us that beyond all the beauty and bliss of Paradise lies a greater gift: the chance to look upon the Face of our Creator.
