HOUSTON: A developing storm in the Gulf of Mexico is threatening US offshore energy operations at a time when oil markets are already under pressure from Middle East conflict.

Major US energy infrastructure in storm path

Gulf facilities account for roughly 15% of US oil production and 5% of natural-gas output. Reuters reported that several Gulf Coast refineries could also face disruption if the system strengthens into the first Atlantic hurricane of 2026.

US crude traded above $90 a barrel while Brent moved above $100, adding to concerns over fuel prices and inflation.
