SEOUL: North Korea has issued a fresh warning to the United States over Taiwan while leader Kim Jong Un reaffirmed support for Russia, adding another layer of tension to an increasingly interconnected security landscape in East Asia and Europe.
Pyongyang links regional and global security disputes
The remarks come as Washington and its Asian allies closely monitor North Korea’s military cooperation with Moscow and Beijing’s position on Taiwan. Pyongyang has repeatedly criticised US military partnerships in the region and portrays them as a threat to its security.
The latest statements are likely to receive close attention in Seoul, Tokyo and Washington because of concerns over military technology transfers and the wider strategic relationship between North Korea and Russia.
