Brahmin community activist Deepak Rannaware has announced that he will launch an indefinite fast from August 29.

Additionally, Rannaware made the announcement at a press conference at a hotel in Jalna on Thursday.
One of his key demands is increased funding for the Parshuram Arthik Vikas Mahamandal. Rannaware claimed that although the Mahamandal was established around two years ago, only Rs 8-10 crore has so far been sanctioned for it.
He demanded that the government increase the allocation to Rs 1,000 crore. Moreover, this would enable the Mahamandal to effectively implement welfare schemes for members of the Brahmin community.
Rannaware also alleged that only eight to 10 proposals had been sanctioned due to tight rules set by the government. Moreover, he said he had staged protests twice in the past demanding the establishment of the Mahamandal.
“Even after its formation, only a few employees have been appointed and no non-government members have been included. The Mahamandal has become merely a showpiece,” Rannaware alleged.
Among his other demands, Rannaware sought an increase in the annual income limit under the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) category from Rs 8 lakh to Rs 15 lakh.
Moreover, he demanded the establishment of dedicated coaching centers for Brahmin students preparing for competitive examinations.
Additionally, he demanded free education for boys and girls from the community.
Rannaware further demanded legislation to protect members of the Brahmin community against alleged abuse and caste-based slurs, on the lines of provisions under the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
He also sought a monthly allowance of Rs 10,000 for Brahmin community priests (purohits).
Sanjay Deshpande, Arvind Deshpande and Subhash Mevankar were present at the press conference.
