NEW DELHI, October 30, 2026. India’s Defence Minister Rajnath Singh held bilateral talks with Singapore’s Minister for Defence Chan Chun Sing on October 28 on the sidelines of the 13th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) in Cebu, Philippines. The two ministers reviewed existing defence cooperation and discussed ways to expand their strategic partnership.
Joint exercises and defence technology
According to India’s Ministry of Defence, the talks focused on expanding joint military exercises involving the army, navy and air force. The ministers also explored closer cooperation in defence industry and technology.
Indo-Pacific cooperation
Singh reaffirmed India’s support for ASEAN centrality and a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific. He described Singapore as an important partner in India’s Act East Policy.
Aero India 2027 invitation
Singh invited Chan to attend Aero India 2027, scheduled for February in Bengaluru, and congratulated him on Singapore assuming the ADMM-Plus chairmanship in 2027.
Location clarification: The meeting was held in Cebu, Philippines, not Singapore. The original draft’s reference to “Rakesh Mantri” was an erroneous rendering of the Hindi title “Raksha Mantri,” meaning defence minister.
