October 30, 2026. Dockworkers’ unions across 22 countries have called coordinated strike action at 113 ports on Friday to protest the use of maritime transport for weapons shipments, according to Reuters. More than 25 unions support the action. The scope of actual disruption may vary by location.

Which ports are involved?

Organisers have identified ports including Hamburg, Valencia, Le Havre, Genoa, Piraeus and Tangier Med. India’s Nhava Sheva has also been named among the locations. This does not mean every port will shut down completely: local participation, legal restrictions and operating conditions differ.

Why are workers protesting?

Unions say the action is intended to oppose arms transport through civilian ports and highlight the dangers faced by seafarers during armed conflicts. Organisers cite a declaration adopted earlier in 2026 calling for an end to such shipments.

Will shipping and passengers be affected?

Some ferry and cargo operations may face delays. Organisers have forecast substantial disruption, but those projections are not independently confirmed outcomes. Travellers and cargo customers should consult port operators and carriers for service-specific updates rather than assume a blanket closure.

What happens next?

The full scale of participation and economic impact will become clearer as individual ports report operations. This article describes a planned strike and does not claim that every announced location has already stopped work.
