NEW DELHI, October 30, 2026. The All India Institute of Ayurveda’s incubation centre, AIIA-iCAINE, has launched a national challenge to encourage practical artificial intelligence applications in Ayurveda. The announcement came during the centre’s sixth foundation-day programme on October 29, alongside new partnerships and support for Ayurveda startups.
What is the National Ayurveda AI Challenge?
The initiative, called AyushTech Innovate: National Open Ayurveda AI Challenge, is organised by Techfest at IIT Bombay in collaboration with the Ministry of Ayush and AIIA. It will draw on AyurParam, IIT Bombay’s open-source Ayurveda large language model, to encourage trustworthy and transparent AI tools.
Potential applications include searching classical Ayurvedic texts, supporting research, assisting treatment planning and improving public-health awareness. The programme is a development challenge, not an announcement that AI systems have been clinically validated for patient care.
When is the finale?
The national grand finale is scheduled for December 15–18, 2026, at IIT Bombay. Prospective participants should consult the organisers for registration rules, eligibility and deadlines; these details were not specified in the government release.
Incubation and startup support
AIIA director Prof. Vd. P. K. Prajapati said AIIA-iCAINE has supported 52 problem statements, mentored more than 100 startup ideas and provided nine startups with seed support of ₹3 lakh each.
New partnerships and IP support
AIIA-iCAINE signed agreements with the World Ayurveda Foundation to advance research and responsible AI entrepreneurship, and with Reliance Retail’s Pahadi Local initiative to explore commercial skincare products based on Ayurvedic knowledge. It also launched an intellectual-property-rights facility intended to help innovators protect their work.
