A US Navy electronic warfare aircraft crashed into the Atlantic Ocean after an arresting gear failure while landing on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower.

The Navy said two aviators ejected and were recovered by search-and-rescue personnel. Associated Press reported that eight sailors were evaluated by medical personnel, with five transported for further treatment.

Investigation into carrier incident

The aircraft was an E/A-18G Growler assigned to Electronic Attack Squadron 130. The arresting gear is designed to rapidly slow aircraft after landing on an aircraft carrier.

The Navy is expected to investigate the equipment failure and the circumstances surrounding the crash.
