US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is preparing to announce another round of reductions in senior military positions, bringing the planned reduction in general and flag officer posts to about 20%.
Associated Press reported that the Pentagon is targeting roughly 800 general and flag officer positions, with the reductions expected to be completed by January 1, 2027.
Reshaping senior military leadership
The proposal follows an earlier 10% reduction order. The Pentagon says the changes are part of a wider effort to reorganize the military leadership structure.
The announcement is being closely watched because of its potential effect on command structures and the size of the senior officer corps.
