BEIJING, September 29, 2026: China has sent two giant pandas to the United States as part of a new phase of international giant-panda conservation cooperation, according to reports from Channel NewsAsia.
The move comes after recent China-US diplomatic activity and follows a period in which panda exchanges have attracted significant public attention in both countries.
Channel NewsAsia reported the transfer on September 27.
Conservation cooperation
International panda programs generally focus on conservation, scientific research, breeding and public education. The animals are managed under agreements between Chinese institutions and overseas partner facilities.
China-US context
The panda transfer comes amid renewed diplomatic engagement between Beijing and Washington. It is separate from the two countries’ economic and technology negotiations, although cultural and scientific exchanges can form part of broader bilateral engagement.
