BEIJING, September 29, 2026: The Chinese Academy of Sciences has released its development plan for the 15th Five-Year Plan period, setting priorities for basic research, strategic high technology and sustainable development through 2030.
The plan also calls for greater use of artificial intelligence in scientific research and stronger international scientific cooperation.
China State Council Information Office reported the release of the plan.
Three major research areas
The academy’s plan organizes major scientific work around basic research, strategic high technology and sustainable development. It also calls for stronger research infrastructure and a more coordinated regional science layout.
AI for science
Artificial intelligence is identified as a tool for accelerating scientific research. AI can assist with data analysis, simulation, scientific discovery and other research tasks, although its effectiveness depends on the quality of data and scientific validation.

International cooperation
