Nigeria Raises Concern After Three Citizens Killed in South Africa in Recent Weeks

ABUJA: Nigerian authorities say three of their citizens were killed in separate incidents in South Africa during September, intensifying diplomatic concern over violence involving migrants.

Nigeria calls for investigations

Nigeria’s ambassador-designate identified the victims and said the latest deaths brought the number of Nigerians killed in South Africa this year to 12, according to Nigerian government figures reported by the Associated Press.

The Nigerian consulate has called on South African authorities to investigate the deaths and prosecute those responsible. South African authorities had not immediately commented on the latest Nigerian statement.

Anti-migrant tensions strain relations

South Africa has experienced protests and violence targeting foreign nationals, creating tensions with several African governments. Claims about motives in individual killings require investigation and should not be assumed without evidence.
