New Delhi, October 23, 2026: Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the corporate office of Sagarmala Finance Corporation Limited (SMFCL), a non-banking financial company dedicated to maritime-sector financing.
₹11,563 crore sanctioned, ₹5,107 crore disbursed
According to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, SMFCL had sanctioned financing of ₹11,563 crore as of September 30, 2026, while ₹5,107 crore had been disbursed. Sanctioned financing represents approvals or commitments; disbursement is the amount actually released.
Financing ambition through 2031
The government outlined an ambition to scale maritime financing to ₹60,205 crore by 2031. This is a future target, not a sum already disbursed or company revenue. SMFCL supports financing for ports, shipping, inland waterways, shipbuilding and connected logistics.
Dedicated financing for long-term maritime projects
Large maritime projects require substantial investment and often have long development periods. The government says the institution is intended to strengthen financing for maritime infrastructure and help implement the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.
