New Delhi, October 23, 2026: The seventh AgriVoltaics World Conference concluded in New Delhi with a call to develop practical, farmer-centred ways to produce food and solar power on the same land.
Farmers at the centre of solar-agriculture planning
Hosted by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the three-day conference brought together researchers, policymakers, farmers, industry representatives and development partners. A session led by GIZ highlighted experiences from farmers, Farmer Producer Organisations and rural entrepreneurs.
What agrivoltaics can offer
Agrivoltaic systems place solar panels above or alongside crops, potentially allowing land to produce electricity while retaining agricultural activity. Results depend on crop selection, local climate, panel spacing and height, irrigation and financing. Speakers emphasised the need to maintain farm productivity and ensure that benefits reach growers.
Awards and the next conference
Organisers presented Excellence Awards, a National Agrivoltaics Pitch-Hub Award and Best Paper Awards across six scientific themes. The conference formally handed hosting responsibility for the eighth edition in 2027 to France.
