Editor’s update, 27 October 2026: This report was originally published before later official findings. In a 9 October statement carried by the Emirates News Agency, the UAE Attorney-General said investigators had obtained a confession from the suspect, who allegedly intended to seize the aircraft and target the passenger terminal at Ben Gurion Airport. Prosecutors said the captain was attacked with an emergency axe and that other pilots, crew and passengers helped regain control before the aircraft landed in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. The suspect’s claim that he acted alone remains subject to investigation; these are prosecutors’ findings and allegations, not a court verdict.
