Amazon Refund Settlement: How to Claim Before Dec. 1

Amazon Refund Settlement: How to Claim Before Dec. 1
Computer-generated English audio

Amazon may have owed you a refund if you returned a physical product between Sept. 5, 2017, and Feb. 12, 2026, and never got your money back, got it late, got the wrong amount, or were charged again afterward. Some customers will be paid automatically, but others must file a claim at the official site, ReturnSettlement.com, by Dec. 1, 2026. This guide explains how to check where you stand, as of Nov. 7, 2026.

What the Amazon returns settlement covers

The case is In re: Amazon Return Policy Litigation, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington. The $309.5 million settlement is for customers who bought a physical item from Amazon between Sept. 5, 2017, and Feb. 12, 2026, asked for a refund and never received it, or were recharged after getting one.

The lawsuit dates to 2023. According to Yahoo Finance, it alleged Amazon failed to properly process refunds for returned products for nearly nine years. Amazon denies wrongdoing. The official site says the court has made no finding that Amazon did anything wrong, and that Amazon settled to avoid further litigation costs and burdens.

This is not the same as the FTC’s separate Prime subscription settlement. That is a different $2.5 billion case, and you can be in both. The Prime claim deadline has already passed, so don’t confuse the two.

Subclass A or Subclass B: do you have to file?

Whether you must act depends on which group Amazon placed you in. The settlement notice email, which went out in early October, should say which one applies to you.

  • Subclass A (automatic): This group covers transactions Amazon identified as involving potentially unpaid refunds, such as payment processing failures or returns Amazon couldn’t confirm were the correct items. The official site says these members get paid automatically and don’t need a claim form.
  • Subclass B (must file): This group includes everyone with transactions at issue other than those in Subclass A. The official site says these members must submit an eligible claim form to be paid.

Some people can belong to both subclasses, and in that case the payments are combined into one issuance. If you didn’t get a notice but believe you qualify, the safest step is to contact the administrator (details below) or check the FAQs on the official site.

How to file an Amazon refund settlement claim

Filing is free. Never pay anyone to submit a claim for you.

  1. Find your settlement email and note your Notice ID.
  2. Pull up your Amazon order history and bank or card statements for the return in question.
  3. Go to ReturnSettlement.com and select “Submit Claim.”
  4. Enter the order details. Yahoo Finance lists the order number, product description, date the refund was requested, amount requested, and the reason the refund was rejected, if known. More documentation may be requested.
  5. Choose a payment method and submit by Dec. 1, 2026.

You can also file by mail. Claim forms must be postmarked by Dec. 1, 2026, and sent to Amazon Return Policy Litigation, Attn: Claim Forms, PO Box 10, East Brunswick, NJ 08816-9998. Because mailing addresses and phone numbers have appeared differently across secondary reports, confirm the current details on the official site before sending anything. The administrator is Angeion Group.

How much could you get, and when?

No per-person amount has been set. The fund is divided between the subclasses after deductions for administrative costs, attorneys’ fees, costs and service awards. Subclass A shares 92.7% of the net fund, while Subclass B claimants who submit valid claims share 7.3%. Subclass A payments include the unpaid transaction amount plus an amount tied to potential prejudgment interest.

Don’t expect money this year. The official site says no payments will go out unless the court approves the settlement and it becomes final. The final approval hearing is March 16, 2027.

Before you file: what staying in means

Staying in the settlement has a legal cost. Whether or not you file a claim, you give up the right to sue Amazon over return, refund and retrocharge claims resolved by the deal. If you think your loss is far larger than a shared payout would cover, you could opt out by Dec. 1, but that’s a decision to discuss with a consumer attorney.

Also be wary of look-alike messages. Only use the official site, and don’t click links in unsolicited texts or emails promising a payment “ready to release.”

FAQ

What is the deadline to claim the Amazon refund settlement?

Dec. 1, 2026, for Subclass B claims. The same date applies to opting out or objecting. Online claims must be submitted, and mailed claims postmarked, by then.

Do I need a claim form if I got an Amazon settlement email?

Only if the email places you in Subclass B. Subclass A members are paid automatically.

Is ReturnSettlement.com legitimate?

Yes. It describes itself as the official settlement website, authorized by the federal court in Washington state, and it is run by Angeion Group.

How much will I get?

It’s unknown. Payments depend on your unpaid refund amounts, interest, and how many valid claims come in. Some websites cite estimated ranges, but the settlement documents state no per-person figure.

Details can change. Check the official FAQs for updates. Information is current as of Nov. 7, 2026.
