NAGOYA, Japan — India’s Chikitha Taniparthi and Sahil Rajesh Jadhav secured a compound mixed-team gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games and, according to World Archery, earned India’s first Los Angeles 2028 Olympic quota place from the Games. The Indian pair defeated Korea’s Park Jungyoon and Choi Yonghee in a shoot-off after the final finished 157-157.

A final decided by one point in the shoot-off

The regulation final could not separate India and Korea. Both teams finished on 157 points, forcing the gold medal to be decided by a shoot-off. Taniparthi and Jadhav delivered a combined 20, while Korea finished with 19. The narrow margin gave India gold and produced one of the most dramatic finishes of the compound archery programme.

Compound archery is built around extremely small scoring differences. The Indian pair therefore had to maintain precision under pressure while knowing that a single nine instead of a 10 could decide the championship. The 20-19 shoot-off showed exactly how fine those margins can be at elite level.

India completes a team-title sweep

The mixed-team victory completed India’s sweep of the three compound team gold medals at Aichi-Nagoya. India had already won the men’s and women’s team titles. The clean sweep made compound archery one of the country’s most productive sports at the Games.

Why the LA28 quota matters

The Asian Games result also carries a qualification dimension. World Archery said the mixed-team victory secured India’s first LA28 Olympic quota place from the Games. The qualification pathway connects the continental competition directly to the next Olympic cycle, although individual Olympic selection remains subject to the applicable national and international qualification rules.

For the athletes, that means the medal is more than a single tournament achievement. It places their performance inside a longer qualification story that will continue through future international events.

Individual success follows

India also produced a strong result in individual compound archery. Ganesh Mani Ratnam Thirumuru won men’s individual bronze, adding another podium finish after the team events. The result underlined the depth of India’s compound programme rather than relying solely on team combinations.

NewsNationOnline has tracked these results in its India medal winners guide, which links readers to the wider Aichi-Nagoya campaign.

What comes next

The Asian Games medals will now become part of the athletes’ competitive records as the sport moves toward the Los Angeles Olympic cycle. India will continue to compete in world-level events where further qualification places and ranking opportunities will be determined.

Official archery information is available through World Archery. The official Asian Games programme and results can be followed through Aichi-Nagoya 2026 and the Olympic Council of Asia.
