MUMBAI: The rain has officially stepped back, but Mumbai is not getting comfortable weather in return. The southwest monsoon withdrew from the city on October 3, while Santacruz recorded a daytime temperature of 37.4°C.
Second-earliest withdrawal this century
The India Meteorological Department’s declaration makes this one of Mumbai’s earliest monsoon withdrawals in the current century. The shift has quickly brought hotter and drier conditions, with the suburbs warmer than South Mumbai.
The abrupt change matters for commuters, outdoor workers, older residents and anyone exposed to afternoon heat. Hydration and limiting unnecessary peak-hour exposure become important even though the calendar has moved beyond summer.
Weather transition can be deceptive
October in Mumbai can feel oppressive because high temperatures arrive after months of humid monsoon conditions. Residents should follow IMD advisories rather than assuming the end of rain automatically means milder weather.
