MUMBAI: Electrification work is progressing alongside civil construction on India’s Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail corridor, which is being equipped with a specialised high-speed railway power system.
The corridor uses a 2×25 kV overhead traction system, designed to support the power requirements of trains operating at high speeds.
Electrification is one of several systems being installed along the route as construction progresses. Track infrastructure, signalling, communications and other railway systems will also have to be tested and integrated before passenger operations.
Systems work follows civil construction
The project’s civil works include viaducts, bridges, stations and tunnels. Systems installation and testing will become increasingly important as completed sections move toward commissioning.
The 508-km corridor is being developed with Japanese technical cooperation and is designed for high-speed passenger services.
