NEW DELHI: India’s domestically developed high-speed trainset for the Mumbai–Ahmedabad corridor is moving closer to track testing as work on the country’s first bullet train project advances.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said the indigenous high-speed train is expected to reach the tracks for testing in 2027. The train is being developed for high-speed operations and will undergo extensive testing before passenger service.
The development is part of India’s effort to build domestic capability in high-speed rail technology. Major components including the car body, propulsion, vehicle electronics and other systems are being developed for the trainset.
Testing before passenger operations
High-speed trains require extensive static, dynamic and safety testing before they can carry passengers. The testing programme will therefore be a crucial stage for the Mumbai–Ahmedabad corridor.
The corridor is being constructed with Japanese technical cooperation while India is also developing indigenous rolling-stock capability.
