Guwahati Police Register Suo Motu Case Over Alleged Assault of Woman at Nightclub

Computer-generated English audio

GUWAHATI: Police have registered a suo motu case after a video surfaced online showing an alleged assault on a woman at a nightclub in the Khanapara area.

CCTV and witnesses under examination

Police said people associated with the club have been questioned and CCTV footage and other material collected. At the time of current reporting, no arrests had been announced and the woman had not filed a complaint.

The incident remains under investigation, and claims visible in circulating videos should not be treated as complete evidence of individual criminal liability.

Police can act even without an immediate complaint

In circumstances where authorities become aware of an alleged cognisable offence, police may initiate action based on available information while seeking further evidence.
