Brazil Presidential Election Heads to Runoff After No Candidate Wins Majority

Brasilia: Brazil’s presidential election is heading to a second-round runoff after no candidate secured the required majority of valid votes in the first round.

The result means voters will return to the polls for a direct contest between the two candidates who received the highest first-round vote totals.

First-round result, not a prediction

The first-round outcome establishes who advances but does not determine the eventual winner. Campaigns now enter a new phase in which both sides will seek support from voters whose preferred candidates were eliminated.

NewsNationOnline will treat official electoral authority figures as the basis for vote totals and will not project the runoff result.
