Brazil Election Campaign Ends With Massive Rallies Ahead of First-Round Vote

SAO PAULO: Brazil’s presidential campaign concluded with major rallies as President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Senator Flávio Bolsonaro made their final appeals to voters before the first-round election.

Campaigns mobilise supporters

Lula’s campaign held a large march through São Paulo, while Bolsonaro joined a motorcycle caravan and later addressed supporters in Rio de Janeiro.

Both candidates expressed confidence, although campaign statements about momentum should be distinguished from official election results.

Runoff remains possible

Under Brazil’s electoral rules, a presidential candidate must win more than 50% of valid votes to avoid a second round. If that threshold is not reached, the top two candidates will compete again on October 25.
