Leading technology companies in the United States have signed a voluntary accord on artificial intelligence safety after a White House meeting with President Donald Trump.
According to The Associated Press, the agreement calls for robust internal controls, independent external audits and board-level review of AI risk reports. The companies involved include Google, Meta, OpenAI, Nvidia, Anthropic and xAI.
What the AI agreement covers
The accord is voluntary rather than a federal law. It leaves open the possibility of future legislation or regulation while asking companies to establish governance processes as AI systems become more capable.
The announcement comes as the US expands investment in AI models and data centers while policymakers debate how to manage safety, energy use and public accountability.
