Environment | NewsNationOnline — The world may add less renewable-energy capacity in 2026 than in the previous year, the head of the International Renewable Energy Agency said on October 27, according to Reuters. The agency reported that renewable installations increased by a record 692 gigawatts in 2025, but inadequate grids and trade barriers threaten further expansion.
Why this matters

Electricity networks must also move power from generation sites to consumers, while storage and flexible demand can help manage changing output. Grid investment, permitting and reliability are therefore becoming central issues for governments planning affordable and cleaner electricity.
