Use a simple structure
A first resume should be easy to scan and usually one page. Put your name and contact details at the top, followed by a short profile, education, relevant skills, projects or experience, and achievements. Use a professional email address and a phone number you check regularly.
Show evidence of skills
Instead of only saying “hard-working” or “good communicator,” show where you used a skill. A college presentation can demonstrate communication; a class project can show research; helping organise an event can show planning. Explain the goal, what you personally did and the result without exaggerating.
Include projects and tailor applications
List relevant coursework, volunteering, internships, student clubs, competitions and personal projects. Read each job description and use truthful wording that matches your experience. Never invent an employer, qualification, certificate or result. Save as a PDF unless another format is requested and proofread it before sending.
