UK Business Confidence Falls to 17-Month Low as Global Uncertainty Grows

United Kingdom current affairs September 2026 featuring Westminster, London and British economy

UK business confidence fell to its lowest level since April 2025 in September, with companies citing higher energy costs and greater global uncertainty.

A Lloyds survey reported that executives had become more cautious about the economic outlook and future trading conditions. Reuters reported that the decline was linked partly to higher global energy prices and geopolitical uncertainty.

Businesses are also watching demand, inflation and borrowing costs as they plan investment and hiring.
