China and the United States have included US coal imports in their latest reciprocal tariff arrangement, with the Chinese side saying the agreement could facilitate coal purchases during 2027 and 2028.
China’s Commerce Ministry said the two countries had reached a broader consensus on tariff reductions covering selected goods. The arrangement also includes continued discussion of trade issues and direct passenger flights. The Chinese foreign affairs briefing said US coal would complement China’s domestic market.

The coal agreement adds an energy component to a wider trade relationship that also covers agriculture, consumer goods and technology. The two economies remain major trading partners despite years of tariff disputes.
