WASHINGTON, October 16, 2026: Elon Musk and his political action committee, America PAC, have agreed to settle two proposed class-action lawsuits over a $1 million-a-day giveaway promoted ahead of the 2024 US presidential election, according to Reuters.
What the lawsuits alleged
Arizona plaintiffs alleged that Musk and America PAC misled voters in seven battleground states into signing a petition supporting the US Constitution by presenting a daily $1 million award as a lottery-style opportunity for randomly selected signatories. The defendants denied the allegations.
Settlement awaits court approval
Lawyers for the parties informed the federal judge overseeing the related cases in Austin, Texas, on October 15 that settlements had been reached, subject to court approval. The filings did not disclose the terms. A settlement is not, by itself, a judicial finding that the defendants committed wrongdoing.
Political and legal significance
The lawsuits drew attention to election-related giveaways and the rules governing promotions aimed at registered voters. Musk established America PAC to support Donald Trump’s successful 2024 presidential campaign. A judge had ordered Musk to testify in the lawsuits earlier in 2026.
