US Forces Set to Complete Iraq Withdrawal After More Than Two Decades

WASHINGTON: U.S. forces are set to complete their withdrawal from their remaining bases in Iraq by September 30, ending more than two decades of American military involvement in the country.

Reuters reported that the withdrawal was agreed in 2024 and is being completed under the current U.S. administration. American forces first entered Iraq in 2003 and later returned in 2014 as part of the international campaign against Islamic State.

The departure is being closely watched because Iraqi security officials and analysts have raised questions about the country’s ability to address security threats without the same level of U.S. intelligence, logistical and air support.
