NAGOYA: China’s 18-year-old Yan Ziyi produced one of the biggest athletics performances of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games by setting a new Games record in the women’s javelin throw.
Yan’s victory added another gold medal to China’s strong athletics campaign and highlighted the emergence of another young Chinese athlete on the continental stage.
The performance came during a day when athletics produced several major results in Nagoya. Thailand’s Puripol Boonson completed his sprint double, while athletes from across Asia battled difficult weather conditions.
Yan has attracted international attention at a young age and is part of a new generation of Chinese athletes making an impact at major championships. Her Asian Games record adds to that growing profile.
The athletics programme is being staged mainly at the Nagoya City Mizuho Park Athletic Stadium. Competition in track and field continues through September 29.
