Vidarbha Ends Monsoon With 27% Rain Deficit; Nagpur Records Second-Lowest Rainfall Since 2015

Nagpur, Maharashtra

NAGPUR: Vidarbha is entering the post-monsoon period with a serious rainfall deficit, raising concerns for agriculture, reservoirs and drinking-water planning.

Region 27% below normal

By September 30, Vidarbha had received 687.3 mm of rain against the normal 937.3 mm — a deficit of roughly 27%. Nagpur district recorded about 621 mm against a normal 938.5 mm, its second-lowest rainfall since 2015.

Western Vidarbha has been particularly affected. The weak season is already feeding into concerns over crop performance and reservoir levels.

Water management becomes critical

The impact of a deficient monsoon continues long after rain stops. Reservoir releases, groundwater, rabi sowing and urban supply all depend on how available stocks are managed over the coming months.
