MAHARASHTRA: The state government is preparing drinking-water and fodder arrangements for the next seven to eight months as drought conditions raise concerns about how rural communities and livestock will manage through the dry season.
Local bodies to be part of planning
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has said special attention will be given to drinking water and fodder, with planning undertaken in coordination with local bodies. The need is especially acute in parts of Marathwada and Vidarbha after weak rainfall.
Long-range planning is important because tanker demand and fodder shortages can intensify months after the monsoon ends.
Drought response extends beyond crop compensation
Farm relief is often measured through crop-loss payments, but household water and livestock survival can be equally critical. Reliable supply chains, local storage and early identification of vulnerable villages can reduce emergency pressure later.
