KYIV: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy says his country will intensify attacks on Russian oil refineries in response to what he describes as a broader Russian air-strike campaign against Ukrainian cities and infrastructure.
Energy infrastructure remains central to war
Ukraine has repeatedly targeted Russian refining capacity, arguing that energy revenues and fuel supplies support Moscow’s war effort. Russia has intensified attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure and denies deliberately targeting civilians.
Zelenskiy told Reuters that Ukraine would not target civilians and said Kyiv is also working to strengthen air defences with drones and missiles.
Diplomatic pressure continues
The United States has pushed for renewed negotiations and has expressed concern that refinery attacks can affect global fuel prices. Kyiv says it sees insufficient evidence that Moscow is ready for meaningful talks.
