Pune: One of Pune’s busiest eastern corridors is under growing pressure as overlapping infrastructure projects, construction barricades and parking problems squeeze usable road space along Nagar Road.
Traffic estimates cited by the Times of India show the corridor handled around two lakh vehicles a day in 2025. At that volume, even modest reductions in road capacity can create long queues stretching into adjoining neighbourhoods.
Multiple interventions converge
The Shastrinagar grade separator and flyover work is a current pressure point, but residents say congestion reflects a longer chain of interventions including U-turn arrangements, median changes, BRTS dismantling, utility works and construction-related narrowing.
Areas affected include Yerawada, Shastrinagar, Kalyani Nagar, Viman Nagar, Wadgaonsheri and the approaches towards Kharadi. Separate local reporting has also highlighted roadside parking and barricades connected with preparatory Metro work between Ramwadi and Wagholi.
Pune needs corridor-level coordination
Large infrastructure projects may ultimately improve mobility, but simultaneous works require coordinated traffic planning. Clear diversions, enforcement against obstructive parking and realistic construction staging can reduce the burden on commuters while projects are underway.
