PUNE: Pune district collector Jitendra Dudi has issued a sharp warning over the condition of roads in the Hinjewadi-Chakan belt: if an unrepaired pothole leads to a fatal accident, police should register an FIR against the responsible executive engineer and contractor.
Seven-day deadline for repairs
Dudi reviewed road and traffic works after agencies missed an earlier September 30 target for making Hinjewadi roads pothole-free. He directed pending repairs to be completed within seven days and stressed that the work must be durable rather than temporary patchwork.
MIDC and PMRDA were also asked to jointly examine drainage in Chakan, where waterlogging contributes to recurring road damage.
Accountability becomes the key issue
Potholes are often treated as a seasonal inconvenience, but the collector’s direction frames unsafe roads as an accountability issue where preventable failures can have serious consequences.
