PUNE: Pune Municipal Corporation has put the appointment of 500 traffic wardens on hold after criticism and questions over the transparency of the tendering process.
Wardens were planned for 250 junctions
PMC’s standing committee had approved the proposal to deploy 500 wardens across 250 key intersections to assist traffic police. Municipal commissioner Naval Kishore Ram has now said the allegations surrounding the contract will be examined before a further decision is taken.
The pause comes at a time when traffic congestion remains one of Pune’s most visible civic problems, meaning the city needs both additional manpower and confidence that procurement is transparent.
Traffic relief and procurement scrutiny
The controversy illustrates a recurring governance challenge: urgently needed services still require robust tendering and oversight. A transparent review can help protect both public funds and the credibility of the eventual deployment.
