US Ban on Nearly $1 Billion of Canadian Imports Takes Effect

WASHINGTON: A U.S. ban covering nearly $1 billion of Canadian imports, including alcoholic beverages, dairy products and motorcycles, took effect Tuesday as trade tensions between the two countries continued.

The measures affect only a small portion of the roughly $880 billion in annual two-way trade between the United States and Canada, but they represent another escalation in the dispute.

Canadian authorities have responded with tariffs on selected U.S. goods. Businesses on both sides of the border are monitoring the impact on supply chains, prices and market access.
