The project, announced by President Donald Trump, is being developed by Mesabi Metallics, a company owned by India’s Essar Group. The proposed facility is expected to produce up to 10 million tons of steel annually when fully operational, according to Associated Press reporting.

The project is linked to a broader push for domestic manufacturing and expanded U.S. steel production. Its development timeline extends into 2030.
