NAGOYA, Japan — India’s Manu Francis and Prince Noble secured silver in the men’s skiff sailing competition at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on October 1. Their runner-up finish added another medal to India’s campaign and underlined the contribution of sailing to a medal tally dominated by a wide variety of sports.
Silver on the water
The Indian pair produced a strong final race to finish second. Sailing requires consistency across multiple races because competitors carry points from the series into the final stages. The Indian crew’s performance was enough to place them on the podium in a tightly contested event.
India also had other sailors competing across the programme, making the result part of a broader campaign on the water. Harshita Tomar and Shital Verma later added bronze in the women’s skiff, giving India another sailing medal on the same day.
India’s medal tally grows
The sailing silver arrived alongside a wrestling silver and bronze medals in squash and compound archery. India’s hockey and cricket teams also reached gold-medal matches, guaranteeing additional medals.

Why sailing matters
Sailing is one of the sports in which equipment, weather, tactical decisions and consistency combine to determine the final standings. The silver won by Francis and Noble therefore represents a substantial achievement for India’s sailing programme and adds another discipline to the country’s medal list.
