WASHINGTON: A bipartisan group of US lawmakers has introduced legislation that would create a federal film and television production incentive ranging from 20% to 30%.

The proposal is aimed at encouraging more film and television production inside the United States as Hollywood competes with production hubs around the world.

The proposed federal incentive could be combined with existing state-level production credits, subject to the legislation’s final terms and approval.

The proposal comes as the American entertainment industry continues to debate production costs, tax incentives and the migration of shoots to locations outside the United States.

The legislation still has to move through the US legislative process before any incentive could take effect.
