Pickup Driver Surrenders After German Couple Killed at Thailand Pedestrian Crossing

PHANG NGA, THAILAND: A 37-year-old pickup driver has surrendered to police after a German couple were fatally struck at a pedestrian crossing in the Khao Lak tourist area.

Police cite CCTV evidence

Thai police identified the victims as Gabriela Gulden, 63, and Wilbert Schwiers, 64. Authorities said CCTV footage showed a pickup running a red light before striking the couple on October 2.

Police said the driver later surrendered and the vehicle was seized as evidence. Authorities have announced charges including causing death through negligence and failing to stop and provide assistance.

Further testing underway

Police are also conducting substance testing. Any additional allegation would depend on those results and subsequent legal proceedings.
