Supreme Court to Hear Pleas Challenging CEC Gyanesh Kumar’s Functioning and SIR

New Delhi: The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear two petitions on October 5 concerning Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s functioning and the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

The petitions contain allegations about decision-making within the Election Commission and seek judicial scrutiny of certain decisions and software changes. One petition also challenges the nationwide SIR exercise.

Election Commission disputes criticism

The Election Commission has said differing views and observations are a normal part of institutional deliberations and that its orders have legal sanction and follow statutory procedures.

The allegations in the petitions are not findings of the Supreme Court. The hearing will determine how the court chooses to address the issues raised.
