Water Crisis Deepens: 76 Villages, 23 Hamlets in Sambhajinagar Now Depend on Tankers

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra

CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR: The district’s drought is rapidly becoming a drinking-water story. By the end of September, 76 villages and 23 hamlets were dependent on tanker supply, covering a population of about 1.14 lakh people.

122 tankers deployed

District water-supply data reported by Sakal says 122 tankers are serving affected settlements. The stress is particularly visible in Vaijapur, Gangapur and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar talukas, where local sources have weakened unusually early.

The figures matter because October is only the beginning of the post-monsoon period. If groundwater and local wells continue to decline, tanker demand could rise well before the peak summer months.

From farm drought to household water stress

Drought initially appears in crop reports, but its social impact becomes much wider once families must depend on tanker schedules for drinking and domestic water. Livestock requirements add another layer of pressure in rural areas.

Officials will need to closely track tanker trips, source sustainability and equitable distribution. Read continuing drought coverage on NewsNationOnline. Source: Sakal.
