Nagar Road Traffic Crisis Deepens as Infrastructure Projects Squeeze Pune Corridor

Pune: Nagar Road is facing severe congestion as multiple infrastructure interventions converge on one of Pune’s busiest corridors.

Traffic estimates cited in current reporting show roughly two lakh vehicles used the corridor daily in 2025. Current pressure includes construction of the Shastrinagar grade separator and flyover, while residents say diversions, utility work and road narrowing have compounded the problem.

Eastern Pune feels the squeeze

Yerawada, Shastrinagar, Kalyani Nagar, Viman Nagar, Wadgaonsheri and Kharadi are among the areas affected. Preparatory work for the Ramwadi-Wagholi Metro extension is adding further pressure at points along the corridor.

Construction needs traffic planning

The projects may improve mobility when complete, but their construction phases require coordinated diversions, parking enforcement and realistic staging so neighbourhood roads are not overwhelmed.
