NAGOYA: Singapore’s Loh Kean Yew has secured a historic Asian Games medal in men’s singles badminton after defeating Indonesia’s world No. 1 Jonatan Christie in the quarter-final.
Loh, ranked 13th in the world, produced one of the biggest wins of his Asian Games campaign by beating Christie 21-14, 21-19 on Sunday. The victory was his first over Christie in 11 meetings.
The Singaporean controlled the key moments of the contest and maintained his composure in the second game after a closely fought opening phase. The result sent him into the semi-finals and guaranteed Singapore a medal in the men’s singles competition.
