Jalna | October 24, 2026: With concerns growing over potential drought and water shortages in Jalna city and district, Gayatri Parivar, Jalna, organised a special Sankalp Yagna at Hanuman Temple in Kalikurti on Saturday morning. Participants prayed for adequate rainfall, sufficient water reserves until the next monsoon, and strength for residents and the administration to face a possible water crisis.
Jalna Mayor Vandana Magre joined the ceremony and offered Ahuti into the sacred fire. She led participants in a collective pledge to conserve water, plant trees and protect the environment.
Mayor Calls for Water Conservation
Mayor Magre said divine blessings were being sought for strength during a difficult period, but protection of natural resources remained a responsibility of every citizen. She urged people to save every drop of water, called on voluntary organisations to raise awareness and assist those in need, and appreciated the initiative of Gayatri Parivar and Advocate Mahesh Dhannawat.
Prayer Must Be Accompanied by Action: Advocate Dhannawat
Advocate Mahesh Sitaram Dhannawat said, “Drought is not merely an administrative problem. It is a serious challenge for society as a whole. Prayer must be accompanied by practical action. The administration should plan water resources carefully, while citizens must avoid wastage and protect trees. Saving water today will help secure the next generation’s future.”
Community Participation
Those present included Ramdev Shrotriye, Girdharilal Verma, Mr. Shrimali, Advocate Mahesh Dhannawat, Shlok Agrawal, Bhushan Yadav, Amol Bangad, Shyam Saraswat, Bobby Agrawal, Amol Sonawane, Santosh Khandelwal, Harinarayan Jaiswal, Shekhar Tawrawala, Atul Rathi, Hitesh Joshi and Mr. Goyal, along with social workers, devotees and local residents. The gathering reaffirmed a shared commitment to water conservation, tree plantation and environmental protection.
Light Showers Later in the Day
Light rain showers were reported in some parts of Jalna later that evening, after the morning Yagna. The coincidence brought happiness to participants, although there is no scientific basis to conclude that the ceremony caused rainfall. Brief showers also do not eliminate longer-term water scarcity concerns. The event concluded with the message: “Save Water, Plant Trees, Protect Nature.”
