Collective pledge for water conservation, tree plantation and environmental protection

Jalna | October 24, 2026: Amid concerns about possible drought and water shortages in Jalna city and district, Gayatri Parivar, Jalna, organised a special Sankalp Yagna at Hanuman Temple, Kalikurti, on Saturday morning. Participants prayed for sufficient water until the next monsoon, satisfactory rainfall and strength for citizens and the administration to confront possible water scarcity.

Mayor Vandana Magre joined the ceremony, offered Ahuti into the sacred fire and administered a collective pledge for water conservation, tree plantation and environmental protection.

Mayor calls for shared responsibility

Mayor Magre said that while people pray for divine strength, protecting nature and water resources remains everyone’s responsibility. Every drop of water must be valued. She urged voluntary organisations to promote awareness of water conservation and assist those in need. She expressed hope for good rainfall and appreciated the initiative of Gayatri Parivar and Advocate Mahesh Dhannawat.

Prayer must be accompanied by action: Advocate Mahesh Dhannawat

Advocate Mahesh Sitaram Dhannawat said, “Drought is not merely an administrative problem. It is a challenge for society as a whole. Prayer must be accompanied by practical action. The administration should plan water resources carefully, while citizens must avoid wasting water and protect trees. Saving water today will help secure the next generation’s future.”

He emphasised that cooperation between public authorities, community organisations and residents is necessary to prepare for water shortages. Tree plantation must also be followed by the long-term care of saplings.

Community participation

Participants included Gayatri Parivar representatives Ramdev Shrotriye, Girdharilal Verma and Mr. Shrimali, alongside Advocate Mahesh Dhannawat, Shlok Agrawal, Bhushan Yadav, Amol Bangad, Shyam Saraswat, Bobby Agrawal, Amol Sonawane, Santosh Khandelwal, Harinarayan Jaiswal, Shekhar Tawrawala, Atul Rathi, Hitesh Joshi and Mr. Goyal, as well as social workers and citizens.

Morning prayers followed by evening showers

Light rain showers were reported in some parts of Jalna later that evening, a coincidence that brought happiness to participants. There is no scientific evidence that the ceremony caused the rainfall, and brief showers do not resolve longer-term water scarcity concerns. The programme concluded with the message: “Save Water, Plant Trees, Protect Nature.”
