Houston: The Dallas Cowboys produced one of the NFL weekend’s most dramatic finishes, rallying from a 10-point halftime deficit to beat the Houston Texans 34-30 after CeeDee Lamb caught the winning touchdown with only 40 seconds remaining.
The game combined a Texas rivalry, a late lead change and career-level individual performances, helping drive intense search interest. Dallas improved to 2-2 while Houston fell to 0-4.
CeeDee Lamb delivered a career-best performance
Lamb caught 17 passes for 189 yards, setting a career high in receptions. Only Jason Witten, who caught 18 passes in a 2012 game, has recorded more receptions in a game for Dallas.
With the Cowboys trailing 30-27, Dak Prescott directed an 11-play, 74-yard drive. He finished it by finding Lamb for the game-winning touchdown with 40 seconds left.
Dak Prescott kept Dallas alive
Prescott completed 32 of 45 passes for 335 yards. His final drive came immediately after Houston had reclaimed the lead, leaving Dallas little room for error.
The quarterback’s ability to respond after the Texans’ late score turned what looked like another difficult Cowboys afternoon into a major comeback win.
Javonte Williams transformed the second half
Javonte Williams scored three rushing touchdowns after halftime and finished with 62 yards on 19 carries. His production gave Dallas a much-needed red-zone answer and helped the Cowboys erase Houston’s advantage.
Dallas entered halftime trailing 16-6. KaVontae Turpin opened the third quarter with a 48-yard kickoff return, helping shift momentum before Williams scored from eight yards out.
C.J. Stroud and Nico Collins nearly won it for Houston
Houston quarterback C.J. Stroud completed 21 of 31 passes for 347 yards and two touchdowns. Nico Collins, returning after a two-game absence caused by a hamstring injury, caught seven passes for 118 yards and both touchdowns.
The Texans also produced one of the game’s most creative plays late. On third-and-14, Stroud completed a short pass to Dalton Schultz, who lateraled to David Montgomery for additional yardage. Woody Marks then scored to put Houston ahead 30-27 with 2:23 remaining.
Dallas answered immediately
Instead of allowing the late Houston touchdown to decide the game, Prescott took the Cowboys 74 yards for the winning score. The final drive demonstrated why the game generated so much attention: the outcome remained uncertain until the final minute.

Houston’s 0-4 start increases the pressure
The defeat dropped the Texans to 0-4, their first 0-4 start since 2020. That makes the loss particularly painful because Houston generated 347 passing yards, received a strong performance from Collins and held the lead late.
Close losses can be more difficult to absorb than one-sided defeats because they highlight how a handful of plays can determine a season’s direction.
Dallas reaches 2-2
For the Cowboys, moving back to .500 keeps the early season from slipping away. The offense showed it can recover from a poor first half and produce under late-game pressure.
Lamb’s workload also reinforces his central role in the Dallas passing game. Seventeen receptions are difficult to sustain weekly, but the performance demonstrated how heavily Prescott can lean on him in high-leverage situations.
What happens next
Dallas will try to build on the second-half offensive rhythm while finding ways to start faster. Houston must solve a different problem: converting competitive performances into wins before an 0-4 start becomes too large a hole.
The Texans showed enough offensive production to suggest improvement is possible, but late-game defense and situational execution remain urgent concerns.
Bottom line
The Cowboys’ 34-30 comeback had nearly everything that drives NFL attention: a rivalry, a 10-point comeback, huge quarterback numbers, a career day from a star receiver and a winning touchdown in the final minute.
Dallas leaves Houston at 2-2. The Texans are 0-4 despite coming within 40 seconds of their first victory.
